Extend Your Range with the AvianX Crusher Turkey Choke
When spring rains come and the grass is greener than ever I always get excited for turkey season. Western Nebraska is a hotspot for the Merriam’s turkey subspecies, but it's getting harder and harder to not only hunt them, let alone get a tag as a non-resident. Fortunately as a resident I can get a tag! This year I was able to get out after those weary gobblers. Usually before turkey season I am able to pattern my shotgun but this year with all the hustle and bustle of life I wasn’t able to. Nevertheless, with a new shotgun in hand, the Benelli Super Black Eagle 3, I wanted to be able to extend my range when chasing a big tom.
Many times I have had gobblers hang up at 50 and 60 yards and just haven’t been able to shoot. Any advantage you can give yourself is well worth it in my book. That's why I decided to try out the AvianX Crusher Turkey choke before the season. The Crusher choke just looks mean.

I am shooting a Benelli Super Black Eagle 3, 12 Gauge so I selected the specific Crusher model for the Crio choke system. There are a good number of models to choose from. The choke arrived and I was able to screw it right into the shotgun, but I didn’t have time to pattern it. Well I put the poor planning past me and headed out the next morning.
After hearing gobbles from where I parked the truck I made a loop around where I heard the birds roosting to a place where I could set up my AvianX decoys. My favorite decoy setup is the AvianX ½ Strut Jake and laydown hen pair. After setting the spread up I hid myself about 15 yards away tucked in between two cedar trees. Turkeys gobbled until they hit the ground and then they went silent. A lonely hen flew into the decoys and then started its way up the bluff. I hit the call a few times as I knew there was a bird just out of sight around the bend. A few minutes later I saw a gobbler's head pop over the bluff. He looked in my direction, saw the decoys, hopped off the bluff and made a beeline to the decoys. He went into full strut and then I couldn’t wait any longer. The shot echoed through the canyon and just like that the hunt was over. The turkey did a backflip and flopped a couple times. The Super Black Eagle 3 and AvianX Crusher choke put a hurtin’ on the tom at just over 15 paces. What a hunt and what a morning to be out in God's creation.
